An under-the-radar recruiting prospect found his way onto the all-state list.

Now, it will be tough to miss Yough's Dustin Shoaf.

The junior running back made the Pennsylvania Sportswriters' Class 3A all-state team, which was released Tuesday afternoon.

The Class 5A team also came out and Franklin Regional senior defensive standout Bryce Lauer was selected as a linebacker.

“It means a lot to be considered one of the best running backs in the state,” Shoaf said. “It's something that I want to reach again next year.”

Shoaf led the WPIAL in rushing during the regular season with 1,808 yards on 280 carries and 16 touchdowns.

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for Dustin,” Yough coach Scott Wood said. “He is one of the hardest working kids I know, and this will motivate him even more.”

Running behind a patchwork line that was decimated by injuries, Shoaf had nine games of 100 or more yards, including a school-record 428 yards and five touchdowns against Southmoreland in Week 8.

“I would not trade (the linemen) for anyone,” Shoaf said. “With the injuries we had … every one of them didn't quit and kept working every week.”

Lauer broke school records for career (368) and single-season (161) tackles. He was named to the Big East Conference first team. He also had two sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception.

Lauer also is considered a sleeper recruit by some. He has scholarship offers from Robert Morris and Duquesne.

Shoaf was a WPIAL Interstate Conference first-team pick.
