WPIBL bowlers earn top-5 finish at state singles tournament

Three bowlers from Western Pennsylvania earned a top-five finish Friday at the state high school bowling championships at Princess Lanes in Whitehall.

Moon's Sam Copleand finished fourth and Armstrong's Jesse Halutick was fifth in the boys competition. Canon-McMillan's Jessica Cadez placed fourth in the girls event.

Bowlers threw six games in the qualifying round, and the top five advanced to the stepladder playoffs.

Burrell's Carlee Hummel had one of the event's highest scores when she rolled a 257 in the qualifying round, where she finished sixth with 1,226 pins.

Norwin's Rachel Lundy was eighth (1,173).

In the boys qualifying round, Ambridge's Ryan Adams placed eighth (1,218), and Penn-Trafford's Mike Barvinchak was ninth (1,217).

Lewisburg's Anthony Neuer threw a 300.

Governor Mifflin's Emily Garl and Cedar Crest's Kolby Bennett won the girls and boys state singles titles.

The team championships will be held Saturday at Princess Lanes.
