WPIAL wrestling roundup for Feb. 24, 2024: Trinity crowns 4 section champs

Trinity crowned a WPIAL-best four section champs at the Class 3A Southern Sectional on Saturday at South Fayette.
Dom Canali (121), Blake Reihner (139), Bode Morgan (172) and Robbie Allison (189) were the champs for the Hillers, who sent nine wrestlers through to next weekend’s WPIAL tournament.
Bethel Park led the Southern Sectional with 11 WPIAL qualifiers, including champs Mason Kernan (133) and Ethan Higgins (145).
Canon-McMillan and West Allegheny also had two champs. Andrew Binni (127) and Geno Calgaro (215) won for the Big Macs, who had five qualifiers. Caiden Harbert (114) and Nick Jones (152) were two of seven qualifiers for West Allegheny.
Peters Township’s Nicholas McGarrity (107), Baldwin’s Keith Mincin (160) and Waynesburg’s Roan Tustin (285) also took titles.
Eastern Sectional – Connellsville, Latrobe and Thomas Jefferson each crowned a trio of section champs.
Nolan Rice (107), Kai Vielma (133) and Evan Petrovich (145) won titles for the Falcons, who sent 11 wrestlers through to next weekend’s WPIAL tournament.
Champs Luke Willochell (121), Jake Braun (127) and Hunter Snyder (172) were three of 10 qualifiers for Latrobe.
Maddox Shaw (139), Bode Marlow (160) and Shepherd Turk (285) topped the podium for Thomas Jefferson, which advanced six wrestlers.
Norwin had two champs – Landon Sidun (114) and Nathan Campbell (189) – and nine qualifiers.
Franklin Regional tied Connellsville for the most WPIAL qualifiers with 11, including champion Juliano Marion (215). Hempfield also had a champ in Eli Carr (152).
Northern Sectional – Pine-Richland had the most section champs with three and North Allegheny had the most WPIAL qualifiers with 11 at Kiski Area.
Dominic Ferraro (139), Maclane Miller (160) and Vaughn Spencer (172) won titles for the Rams, who advanced five wrestlers. Evan Schomburg (107) won to lead the way for the Tigers.
Butler, Kiski Area and Plum each had two champs.
Santino Sloboda (114) and Kase Chopp (133) were champs for Butler, who advanced six wrestlers.
Cooper Roscosky (189) and Abrahm Taylor (215) won for Kiski Area, which also sent six wrestlers through.
Champs Rylen Campbell (127) and Antonino Walker (152) were two of Plum’s seven qualifiers.
Armstrong sent nine wrestlers through, including champ Phiup Rearick (285).
Seneca Valley’s Connor Smith (121) and Mars’ Liam Hein (145) also won section titles.
