Mars’ Carmody picked for All-American Bowl, 4th WPIAL player in 4 years

For the fourth year in a row, the WPIAL had a high school football player chosen for the All-American Bowl.

Mars senior Michael Carmody announced Monday that he’d accepted an invitation to the all-star game in San Antonio. The game, which features players from across the country, will be Jan. 4 and televised nationally by NBC.

Carmody, a four-star offensive lineman, joins Pine-Richland’s Andrew Kristofic (2019) and Phil Jurkovec (2018), and North Allegheny’s Josh Lugg (2017) as recent All-American Bowl selections. All four players also were Notre Dame recruits.

The all-star game was previously sponsored by U.S. Army. Its list of alumni includes Ezekiel Elliott, Odell Beckham Jr., Andrew Luck and Adrian Petersen, among others.
