■ LIGONIER VALLEY 35, HOMER-CENTER 6
The Ligonier Valley Rams honored their classmate and former teammate Nick Neiderhiser, who died Tuesday, by defeating previously undefeated Homer-Center, 35-6, in a PIAA District 6 Heritage Conference first-place showdown.

■ PENN-TRAFFORD 20, FRANKLIN REGIONAL 13
Warriors senior John Gay IV made his mark in the fourth, breaking loose for a 48-yard touchdown with 8 minutes, 49 seconds remaining and adding a touchdown- and game-saving tackle 20 seconds later as Penn-Trafford escaped with a 20-13 victory at Panthers Stadium.

■ DERRY 41, MT. PLEASANT 9
After a slow start for Derry — thanks to Mount Pleasant’s impressive first-quarter defense — the Trojans offense took off in the second quarter.

■ FREEPORT 49, APOLLO-RIDGE 7
The Yellowjackets’ latest dominant defensive performance — five forced turnovers, leading to 21 points — propelled them to a 49-7 victory over an undermanned Apollo-Ridge team.

■ GATEWAY 48, PLUM 14
Gators senior quarterback Brady Walker found Jeremiah Josephs for a 12-yard touchdown. Josephs broke two tackles and found the end zone just 2 minutes, 1 second into the game.

■ MONTOUR 24, HIGHLANDS 14
Highlands built an early lead before the Spartans used their power running game and a bend-but-don’t-break defense to score 21 straight points en route to a 24-14 victory in a Northwest Nine matchup.

■ UPPER ST. CLAIR 21, WEST ALLEGHENY 20
Faced with the choice to kick or try for the win, Palko went for two in overtime Friday night, a gamble he’s won before. But this time, USC’s Tom Kyle intercepted Mateo Vandamia’s two-point throw and Upper St. Clair won 21-20, the final twist in what became an unpredictable finish.
