WPIAL Softball Playoff Recaps for Thursday, May 19th

You have to start somewhere. After two complete wash out days, spring postseason action returned to the diamonds Thursday with a tripleheader at California University of Pennsylvania. Here are recaps from all three First Round contests, one each from Class AA, Class AAA and Class AAAA where the defending champion Mount Lebanon Blue Devils advanced while raising some eyebrows.

WPIAL CLASS AAAA FIRST ROUND:

Mount Lebanon Blue Devils 6 – Franklin Regional Panthers 4
In the 3rd game of the day at California University of PA in WPIAL AAAA girls softball action the defending champion Mt Lebanon Blue Devils the #13 seed upset the # 4 seed Franklin Regional Panthers by a score of 6-4. Darby Foor of the Blue Devils gave up only one hit thru 4 innings. The Blue Devils plated single runs in the 3rd on a single, and 2 errors, and one in the 4th on a lead off HR by star Shortstop Tess Apke to take a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils had a great 6th inning getting 4 big hits including a triple by Ashley Darabont a hit batter and a sac fly to score 4 more runs to make it 6-0.
