Serving for PIAA gold
Four WPIAL tennis champions are two wins away from adding state gold to their championship season.
Two district singles tennis players and a pair of WPIAL duos have advanced to the PIAA semifinals.
The semifinals and finals are Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
In girls’ AAA, North Allegheny senior Ashley Huang has lost only three games in back-to-back straight set wins. She will face Amelia Honer of Council Rock North in a semifinals match at 10:30 a.m.
WPIAL champion Laura Greb of Knoch has also reached the final four as she will take on Brenna Magliochetti of Bethlehem Catholic at 8:30 a.m. in Class AA.
In the PIAA doubles, Ella Santora and Aya Youssef of Shady Side Academy will battle Dina Nouaime and Tina Prince of Methacton in a Class AAA semifinals match at 10:30 a.m.
Not to miss out on the district championship state runs is the Beaver duo of Devyn Campbell and Anna Blum when they face District 10 champions Sarah DeMarco and Tara Thomas of Villa Maria Academy. That semifinals match is at 8:30 a.m.
Running for PIAA gold
Last year, senior Tristan Forsythe of Winchester Thurston won PIAA gold in boys’ Class A while the Fox Chapel girls’ team won a state crown in Class AAA.
