A rare loss did not affect the Moon girls soccer team’s standing in the state rankings.

The defending PIAA champion Tigers (7-1-1), who were upset last week by South Fayette, 1-0, to end their 47-game unbeaten streak, remain No. 1 in the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association rankings for Class 3A.

Moon did drop out of the United Soccer Coaches national top five after occupying the No. 4 spot.

Mars (7-0) stayed at No. 2, while Plum (5-0-1) is No. 4 in the classification in the PSCA rankings.

North Allegheny (9-0), meantime, moved up a spot to No. 1 in 4A. No. 5 Upper St. Clair (7-1), No. 8 Seneca Valley (8-0) and No. 10 Peters Township (7-0-1) also are ranked in 4A.

In 2A, Avonworth (7-0-2) is No. 6 and Freeport (6-0-1) went from unranked to No. 10.

Springdale (6-0) moved to No. 1 in Class A, while Greensburg Central Catholic (4-1) is No. 8.

On the boys’ side, Seneca Valley (8-0) remained No. 1 in 4A, while North Allegheny (9-0) is No. 8.

Four WPIAL teams are ranked in 3A: No. 6 Plum (8-1), No. 7 Bethel Park (7-1), No. 9 Thomas Jefferson (7-1) and No. 10 Ringgold (7-1).

In 2A, South Park (9-0), Deer Lakes (7-1), Shady Side Academy (4-1) and Belle Vernon (7-1) are all ranked. The latter two were not ranked last week.

Charleroi (9-0) is No. 2 in Class A, joining other WPIAL teams in No. 6 Sewickley Academy (6-0-1) and No. 9 Bentworth (7-1).
