WPIAL rifle sections impacted by realignment for 2024-25

The WPIAL released new section alignments for the next two-year cycle in all sports, and changes will be implemented starting this fall.

This summer, the Tribune-Review will break down changes for each of the WPIAL sports.

Here’s a look at the upcoming WPIAL rifle season.

2023-24 WPIAL champions

WPIAL team champion: Butler

WPIAL individual champion: Carlee Valenta, Penn-Trafford

Section 1: McGuffey

Section 2: Trinity

Section 3: Hempfield

Section 4: Butler

Notable changes

WPIAL rifle, which again will feature four sections and 16 total teams, underwent a few changes this offseason.

• In Section 1, McGuffey and Waynesburg Central remained in the section, but Avella and Trinity moved over from Section 2.

• Bethel Park and Washington remain in Section 2 and are joined by West Greene from section 1 and Mt. Lebanon from Section 3.

• In Section 3, Hempfield and Woodland Hills will be joined by Upper St. Clair and Plum, which moved from Section 1 and 4, respectively.

• Penn-Trafford joins Section 4 alongside holdovers Armstrong, Butler and Indiana.
