A special Championship edition of the Plays of the Week this Tuesday. Four games, four big plays that helped Clairton, North Allegheny, Aliquippa and West Allegheny continue their impressive traditions of recent Championships.

#1 North Allegheny Tigers 21 – Woodland Hills Wolverines 14

After squandering several opportunities to tie the AAAA Championship game, Woodland Hills would get one last shot at evening the score. But, on a 4^th and 10, the North Allegheny defense would prove why the Tigers are deserving Champions, stopping the Wolverines and taking the ball on downs. Woodland Hills would not touch the football again, as NA would hold on to win their third consecutive WPIAL crown.

#2 Clairton Bears 58 – Sto-Rox Vikings 21

After producing one of his worst halves of football in his life, Tyler Boyd was determined to not be the reason for Clairton’s streak to be stopped. After Having their lead cut to 35-21 and watching the momentum fly to the Sto-Rox side of Heinz Field, Boyd put the game on ice, breaking free for a 73-yard touchdown run and putting the game out of reach for a very game Vikings team. The highest scoring Championship game in WPIAL history would go the way of the Bears, who break the Pennsylvania state record for consecutive wins with 60.

#3 West Allegheny Indians 34 – West Mifflin Titans 8

Only down 13-0 at the half, West Mifflin needed a big defensive play early in the second half to get them back in the game. Unfortunately for the Titans, West Allegheny had other ideas. The Indians would take the opening kickoff and march down the field, capping the drive off with a 10-yard touchdown screen pass from Andrew Koester to Armand Dellovade, making the score 20-0 and crushing the Titans’ hopes of a comeback.

#4 Aliquippa Quips 34 – Washington Little Prexies 7

It is tough to pinpoint a certain play from this game. It could come from Aliquippa’s 500+ yards of offense. It could come from the Quips holding the WPIAL’s leading rusher to a season low in yardage. One big play that stand out is Malik Shegog’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Dajon Perry with just 0:26 seconds left in the first half, pushing the Quips’ lead to 26-0 at half, a deficit that Washington could never overcome. The win gives Aliquippa 15 WPIAL titles in their impressive history.
