WPIAL Class AA preseason team rankings
Rank, team, last season’s record
1. Burrell, 13-7
• The Bucs return 11 starters and have won 12 consecutive WPIAL titles. They are the team to beat until someone defeats them.
2. Freedom, 11-6
• The Bulldogs reached the semifinals and finished fourth in the WPIAL. They return 11 starters.
3. Derry, 21-4
• The Trojans return eight starters from a team that placed second in the WPIAL and qualified to wrestle in Hershey.
4. McGuffey, 17-7
• The Highlanders finished third in the WPIAL and return 10 starters.
5. Hopewell, 4-13
• The Vikings dropped down from Class AAA and could be a force with eight starters returning.
6. Burgettstown, 10-4
• The Blue Devils return nine starters from a team that finished second in Section 1.
7. Elizabeth Forward, 9-7
• The Warriors return eight starters and could challenge Derry in Section 3B.
8. Quaker Valley, 9-9
• The Quakers return eight starters, including two PIAA qualifiers.
9. Beth-Center, 7-9
• The Bulldogs return eight starters, including 2017 PIAA placewinner Dom Fundy.
10. Valley, 9-7
• The Vikings return nine starters, including three Southwest Regional qualifiers.
Others to watch: Bentworth, Fort Cherry, Highlands and Keystone Oaks.
