WPIAL Class AA Boys and Grils Swimmings Results from Thursday

It was a family affair to claim gold at the Boys and Girls 50 yard freestyle on Day 1 of the McDonalds/WPIAL Class Swimming Championships Thursday at Trees Pool. Sophomore Emily Zimcosky of Geibel Catholic claimed the top spot, minutes later senior John Paul Zimcosky reached the top of the medal stand as the Gators swept the event.
The boys team race is close, Mars leads Indiana by 4 points, 116-112. West Allegheny leads Blackhawk by 18 points in the girls standings.
Drew Darnich of Chartiers Valley defended his title in the 200 Freestyle, Damich is also the defending champion in the 500 and did the anchor leg of the Colts win in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Christopher Georgiadis of Mars bested his teammate Thomas Pierre to claim his second title in the 200 Individual Medley. West Mifflin senior Brad Kolesar set a new record in the 100 Butterfly.
Here are the team standings and individual results thru Day 1, the top 5 boys and top 4 girls are guaranteed trips to the PIAA Championships at Lehigh University. Coverage for Day 2 starts at 3 pm on the MSA Sports Network.
