WPIAL Class 4A football roundup: Armstrong edges North Catholic in Greater Allegheny

Jaydon Oliver threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns as Armstrong scored a 21-20 victory over North Catholic (3-3, 2-1) in the Class 4A Greater Allegheny Conference on Friday night.

Chase Jablonski and Nick McNeely caught TD passes, and Kyan Kline ran for a 3-yard TD for Armstrong (4-2, 1-1). Hunter Reed’s extra point in the third quarter sealed the win.

Jack Fennell rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns for North Catholic.

Kiski Area 28, Indiana 7 — Landon Kucic rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns as Kiski Area (2-4, 1-2) beat Indiana (2-4, 0-3) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Carson Heinle threw for 194 yards and a touchdown for Kiski Area. Trevor Smith tossed for 187 yards and ran for Indiana’s only touchdown.

McKeesport 48, Ringgold 0 — Akeem Cochran had two of five McKeesport interceptions in its Big Seven Conference shutout over Ringgold (0-6, 0-2). Ricky Beerman returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown for No. 3 McKeesport (5-1, 3-0) while Anthony Cromerdie scored on a 55-yard punt return. Garrett Tarker threw for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and Anthony Boyd ran for 95 yards and two TDs.

Thomas Jefferson 56, Laurel Highlands 6 — Brody Evans threw for 119 yards and three touchdowns as No. 2 Thomas Jefferson (6-0, 2-0) beat Laurel Highlands (1-5, 0-3) in Big Seven Conference play. Jason Salman caught two touchdown passes for Thomas Jefferson and scored on a 33-yard interception return.

Latrobe 25, Trinity 7 — Ja’Tawn Williams scored on a 7-yard pass from John Wetzel and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown as Latrobe (4-2, 2-1) beat Trinity (3-3, 1-2) in the Big Seven Conference. Alex Tatsch also returned an interception for a touchdown for Latrobe. Jonah Williamson threw for 166 yards and ran for 124 yards and Trinity’s lone touchdown.

Aliquippa 53, Ambridge 16 — Top-ranked Aliquippa (5-0, 3-0) beat Ambridge (2-4, 1-2) in a Parkway Conference matchup.

Central Valley 42, Blackhawk 14 — In the Parkway Conference, No. 4 Central Valley (5-1, 3-0) beat Blackhawk (0-6, 0-3).

Montour 48, New Castle 14 — Montour (5-1, 2-1) defeated New Castle (0-6, 0-3) in the Parkway Conference.

West Allegheny 42, Chartiers Valley 6 — Brock Cornell ran for 198 yards and two touchdowns to lead West Allegheny (4-2, 2-1) to the Parkway Conference win at Chartiers Valley (1-5, 1-2). West Allegheny led at halftime, 7-6, before scoring 35 second-half points.

Connellsville 28, Hampton 26 — Bruce Giles ran for 232 yards and two touchdowns as Connellsville (4-2) beat Hampton (2-4) in a nonconference game. Brock Borgo rushed for 202 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Windber 37, Uniontown 7 — Windber (5-1) won on the road at Uniontown (2-4) in a nonconference matchup.
