WPIAL Boys Basketball – 2009-2010 Season Review

A pair of boys basketball teams captured WPIAL gold for a second straight season last year as both North Catholic in Class AA and Sewickley Academy in Class A successfully repeated as district boys basketball champions. Elsewhere, after taking home silver in 2009, Mount Lebanon went from preseason to postseason at #1 and captured Quad A gold while T.J. McConnell led Chartiers Valley to that programs fifth WPIAL crown and first since 2004 with gold in Class AAA. Then South Fayette in AA and Sewickley Academy in A helped the WPIAL boys to its most successful trip to the state hoop finals since 2004. The Lions won their first ever state basketball title while the Panthers continued its 2010 gold rush by winning the schools second PIAA crown and first since 1997. Another WPIAL champ had to settle for state silver as Chartiers Valley tasted defeat for only the second time AAA finals.
