Woodland Hills set to hire former Franklin Regional basketball coach

Woodland Hills will vote Wednesday night to hire Steve Scorpion as its head boys basketball coach, according to the board agenda.
Scorpion was as an assistant for the last two seasons, one at Woodland Hills and last year at Kiski Area.
Woodland Hills will play next season in Class 6A, which will have two, eight-team sections.
Scorpion, 41, has been forthcoming about his opioid addiction, which nearly cost him his life in a 2021 vehicle accident.
He steadily has put his life back together after prolonged rehabilitation and a strengthened regard for his family: his wife, Marissa, and their three young sons.
Now in his third year as a health and physical education teacher at Young Scholars of Western PA Charter School in Pittsburgh, Scorpion was the head coach at Franklin Regional, where was a standout guard, for four seasons.
He had a record of 53-34, and in 2017-18 led the Panthers to a WPIAL 5A runner-up finish.
