The real winner on Friday might be Mother Nature. The forecast calls for more rain that could wreak havoc with the WPIAL baseball and softball schedule.

However, if the forecast is off and games can be played, there are three matchups in Section 4-5A softball that will help determine the section leaders heading into the weekend.

Part of the reason every section game plays a role in the leaderboard is because only one game separates all six teams in the section.

Bethel Park is 2-1 in the section and Upper St. Clair is 1-2. The other four teams, Trinity, Connellsville, Peters Township and Thomas Jefferson, are all 1-1.

On Friday, Bethel Park hosts Connellsville, Trinity visits Thomas Jefferson, and Peters Township welcomes Upper St. Clair.

Section 1 showdowns

First place is up for grabs in Section 1 in a two different softball classifications Friday.

In Section 1-2A, Riverside (2-1) visits Neshannock (3-0). Both teams are 2-0 and tied for first in the section.

In Section 1-A, South Side (3-2) is home to two-time defending champion Union (4-0). The Scotties are 3-0 in the section while the Rams are a half-game back at 2-0.
