Trib HSSN hits mid-September with a busy night of WPIAL girls soccer, with three outright battles for first place Monday on the pitch.
Thomas Jefferson (4-1) visits South Fayette (5-2) in a match between 3-0 teams tied for the top spot in Section 3-3A.
The Jaguars have won three consecutive matches by a combined score of 18-2 since losing to Upper St. Clair.
The Lions have won four straight contests, outscoring opponents 33-0 in those matches.
South Fayette blanked Thomas Jefferson in the 2023 Class 3A quarterfinals, 3-0, on its way to a WPIAL championship.
First place in a couple of Class 2A sections will be up for grabs as well Monday.
Beaver (6-0) hosts Quaker Valley (5-1-1) in Section 3-2A.
Both the Bobcats and the Quakers are 3-0 in the section.
The same situation is true when Southmoreland (5-2) visits Mt. Pleasant (6-0).
Both are 3-0 with the Scotties riding a four-game winning streak. The Vikings have been perfect this fall.
Rivals collide for first
Last season, these two Westmoreland County rivals were a combined 10-16 in section play and 15-21 overall in WPIAL girls soccer.
Now Penn-Trafford and Norwin are a combined 5-1 in Section 1-4A and 8-6 overall as they prepare to battle for first place.
Since losing to Peters Township and Upper St. Clair in their first two matches of the season, the Warriors have won five straight, including all three section matches.
The Knights also lost their first two contests on 2024 to Pine-Richland and Mt. Lebanon, but have since won three of five games and have outscored opponents 19-0 in their three wins.
Penn-Trafford is alone in first place with a one-game lead over host Norwin and Latrobe.
Boys first pitch
There are only three section matches Monday in WPIAL boys soccer, but one of them is a showdown in Class A.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Carlynton are deadlocked for first place in Section 3-A, each with a section record of 3-0.
The two are a combined 11-2 overall with the Chargers having won all five of their matches while the Cougars have won four in a row.
Both teams qualified for the playoffs last year, but they both lost in the opening round of the Class A boys soccer playoffs.
Currently they lead Aquinas Academy by one game and Serra Catholic by two games in Section 3-A.
