MONDAY

Softball

Belle Vernon usually doesn’t have to work this hard for a WPIAL playoff spot, but the Leopards are in position to get into the postseason again. A sweep of Ringgold in Section 2-4A could go a long way.

TUESDAY

Baseball

Penn-Trafford, closing in on the Section 2-6A title, hosts Latrobe in Harrison City.

Derry isn’t out of the postseason chase in Section 1-4A, and the Trojans could use a home upset of Knoch.

Southmoreland at Beth-Center (3-3A), Jeannette at St. Joseph (nonsection) and Vincentian at Greensburg Salem (nonsection) also are enticing matchups.

Softball

Hempfield isn’t ready to give up its bid for a fifth straight section title, but time is wearing thin. The Spartans play at Fox Chapel as they try to catch first-place North Allegheny.

Other key games include Latrobe at Albert Gallatin (1-5A), Greensburg Salem at Mt. Pleasant (1-4A) and Indiana at Yough (1-4A).

Boys volleyball

The top match in Section 3-AAA has to be Armstrong at Penn-Trafford, and Deer Lakes at Derry is usually a rivalry thriller in Section 2-AA.

Track & field

Greensburg Central Catholic will host the Section 8 Championship meet.

WEDNESDAY

Baseball

Connellsville will take on Penn-Trafford in a Section 2-6A game at Seton Hill.

Boys tennis

WPIAL section doubles tournaments begin around the district.

THURSDAY

Softball

Norwin will look to avenge a 7-3 loss to Section 2-6A leader North Allegheny as the teams meet again in McCandless.

Other games to watch: Pine-Richland at Hempfield (2-6A), Franklin Regional at Latrobe (1-5A) and Laurel Highlands vs. Penn-Trafford (1-5A) at Seton Hill.

Baseball

Night baseball has been popular at Latrobe. The Wildcats host Norwin in a Section 2-6A game under the lights. More notable games: Fox Chapel at Franklin Regional (1-5A), Derry at Mt. Pleasant (1-4A), Highlands at Greensburg Salem (1-4A), Yough at Knoch (1-4A), Belle Vernon at South Park (3-4A), Keystone Oaks at Southmoreland (3-3A) and Greensburg Central Catholic at Leechburg (3-A).

Penn-Trafford hosts Connellsville in Section 1-5A.

Track & field

Numerous WPIAL teams and athletes will compete at the Mars Invitational.
