MONDAY

Baseball

The weather won again last week, so schedules continue to be a mess. Slowly, though, sections are getting back on track as they continue to loathe the weather-permitting asterisks.

Some key games to watch include Norwin (4-2, 3-1) at new No. 1 Hempfield (10-2, 5-0) in Section 2-6A; Franklin Regional (7-2, 5-1) at Gateway (7-1, 6-1) in 3-5A; Thomas Jefferson (4-7, 2-5) at Latrobe (4-5, 3-4) in 3-5A); Greensburg Salem (6-3, 5-2) at No. 2 Freeport (7-0, 7-0) in 1-4A; and Derry (2-8, 1-7) at Deer Lakes (5-4, 2-3 in 1-4A.

Softball

The matchup many have been anticipating will be at Graham-Sobota Field in Latrobe as No. 1 Hempfield (6-1) visits No. 2 Latrobe (6-0) in a rematch of last year's WPIAL Class 6A championship. Hempfield had its 46-game winning streak stopped Sunday by Penn-Trafford, 7-3. The Spartans, however, have won 33 consecutive section games.

• A nonsection game of note has Greensburg Salem (3-6) at Southmoreland (3-3).

TUESDAY

Baseball

Another WPIAL title-game rematch, which was postponed last week, is No. 2 Greensburg Central Catholic (5-2, 5-0) at No. 4 Jeannette (6-1, 4-1) in Section 2-A.

• Franklin Regional hosts first-place No. 2 Laurel Highlands in Section 3-5A.

• Hempfield is scheduled to play a nonsection game at 6A No. 5 Bethel Park.

Softball

Franklin Regional hosts Greensburg Salem in a Section 1-5A game, and Yough hosts West Mifflin in Section 2-4A.

Boys volleyball

Section 3-AAA's top matchup has Penn-Trafford visiting Hempfield.

Boys lacrosse

Franklin Regional faces a tough test against visiting North Allegheny.

WEDNESDAY

Baseball

Top games include Plum at Norwin (2-6A), Gateway at Latrobe (3-5A) and Freeport at Derry (1-4A).

Softball

Latrobe will travel to Norwin for a Section 2-6A makeup game. The Wildcats won the first meeting 7-0.

Girls lacrosse

Latrobe at Penn-Trafford is a strong matchup in Section 2-AAA.

THURSDAY

Baseball

Penn-Trafford will look to avenge a 7-3 loss from earlier in the season when it hosts Hempfield in Section 2-6A.

• Derry at Yough in Section 1-4A is another one to watch.

Softball

Penn-Trafford plays at Gateway, and Plum at Greensburg Salem is another key Section 1-5A game.

• Norwin at Fox Chapel (2-6A) and Mt. Pleasant at Knoch (1-4A) are other games of note.

Boys lacrosse

Latrobe hosts Penn-Trafford at its campus stadium.

Boys volleyball

A trio of playoff-like matches to watch include Hempfield at Norwin and Latrobe at Plum in Section 3-AAA, and Derry at Deer Lakes (2-AA).

Football

The WCCA Foothills Football Classic all-star rosters will be unveiled at the event's introduction night at Ferrante's Lakeview.

FRIDAY

Baseball

Hempfield travels to Plum in Section 2-6A while Franklin Regional visits Gateway in Section 3-5A.

• Other top games: Greensburg Salem at Knoch (1-4A) and Belle Vernon at Ringgold (3-4A).

Softball

Nonsection games always are tentative when the weather wreaks havoc, but three decent ones have Norwin at Penn-Trafford, Ligonier Valley at Latrobe, and Hempfield at Mifflin County.

Track and field

Some of the top athletes and teams will compete in the Mars Invitational, one of the top-tier meets on the state schedule.

SATURDAY

Track and field

Latrobe Memorial Stadium once again will be the site for the Westmoreland County Coaches Association championships. Field events begin at 9:30 a.m., and running begins about 10:15.
