Norwin is the only Westmoreland County team left in the Trib Live HSSN rankings. Things, of course, could change as the season carries on.

But the Knights, who are sitting at No. 5 in Class 4A, are looking strong.

They take a 4-1 mark into Thursday’s game at Peters Township. They were tied with Upper St. Clair for the highest goal total in the classification with 26.

One player who has stood out for coach Scott Schuchert’s unit is junior midfielder Daniel Maddock.

Maddock has 10 goals, including a hat trick against Hempfield, and a four-goal game in a 5-1 win over Chartiers Valley in the season opener.

He had the lone score in a 1-0 win over a tough Canon-McMillan team Tuesday.

Six pack

While Belle Vernon’s Tyler Kovatch raised some eyebrows when he kicked in seven goals in a recent game, another local player came close to that number.

Brennan Borbonus tallied six goals for Derry in a 10-1 win over Leechburg earlier in the year.

Jordan Taylor of Jeannette also has a six-goal game.

Tourney split

Belle Vernon came out of the weekend with a 3-1 record after a 1-1 showing at its Paul Stasko Memorial Tournament.

Kovatch netted four goals, while Mason Yeschenko and Anthony Sawa had one apiece as the Leopards topped California, 6-2.

The Leopards moved to 4-1 with a 4-0 shutout of Waynesburg as Brandon Yeschenko netted two goals.

Doubling up

Two Mt. Pleasant players are contributing in two sports during this fall season.

Ryan Karfelt and Aydan Gross are also starters on the golf team. They both contributed to a pair of wins Tuesday.

The golf team beat Jeannette, 202-267, in the afternoon as Karfelt shot a 33 and Gross a 38.

The soccer team took care of Brownsville in a night game, 9-0, with Gross netting two goals and Karfelt added another for the Vikings.

Latrobe wins a pair

Latrobe jumped out to a quick, 2-0 start.

The Wildcats edged past Penn-Trafford, 2-1, then defeated Obama Academy, 3-1.
