Extra bases: Rice had a clutch two-run single and gunned down a base runner in the seventh inning, as the Centurions knocked off District 9 champion DuBois Central Catholic, 4-3, in the PIAA first round on Monday. Pitchers Antonio Cavallo and Bruce Leonard controlled the DuBois Central Catholic hitters. GCC rallied to defeat rival Jeannette, 8-7, in the WPIAL third-place game to qualify for the state playoffs. The Centurions fell to Union, 6-1, in the WPIAL semifinals. This is GCC's fourth consecutive trip to the PIAA playoffs. … Homer-Center won the District 6 title by edging St. Joseph's Catholic Academy. The Wildcats rallied to defeat Union, 6-2, in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs. Davis improved to 8-0 on the season. Davis has a .433 batting average, Dakota Sunday is hitting .404 with 20 RBIs and Jesse Lee is hitting .413 with 26 hits. Sunday played for Blairsville when GCC won a first-round game at Latrobe in 2015.
