First round

12-Mt. Pleasant (12-6) vs. 5-South Park (12-6)

4 p.m. Tuesday at Gateway

Winner plays: Winner of 4-Waynesburg (15-3)/13-Freeport (13-6) in quarterfinals May 19 (time, site TBD)

Players to watch: Cole Chatfield, Mt. Pleasant; Cooper Hochendoner, South Park

Extra bases: Mt. Pleasant was part of a five-way tie for first place in Section 3. The Vikings are averaging 7.7 runs per game. Mt. Pleasant senior Cole Chatfield has scored 19 runs, collected 22 hits and 18 has RBIs. Junior Santino Marne leads the team with a .480 batting average, 24 hits and scored 19 runs. … South Park’s Cooper Hochendoner is hitting .462 and is the Eagles’ top pitcher. Catcher Ryan Spitznagel leads the team in doubles. The Eagles finished second to No. 2-seeded Avonworth in Section 2. The teams split their section series.

10-Ligonier Valley (10-7) vs. 7-Quaker Valley (12-6)

2 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Chapel

Winner plays: Winner of 2-Avonworth (17-3)/winner of 15-South Allegheny (7-9)/18-Keystone Oaks (8-9) in quarterfinals May 19 (time, site TBD)

Players to watch: Duncan Foust, Ligonier Valley; Oscar Roig, Quaker Valley

Extra bases: The Rams have won eight consecutive games and shared the Section 3 title at 8-4. Ligonier Valley junior Jacob Petalino has a team-high .408 batting average. Pitcher/third baseman Duncan Foust is 4-1. … Quaker Valley finished third in Section 1 with a 6-4 mark. The Quakers average 7.6 runs and have won four straight games, including a pair of 10-0 wins over Sto-Rox. Quaker Valley senior shortstop Oscar Roig has 35 stolen bases. Todd Kagle has 24 hits, 10 doubles and 32 RBIs.

5-Greensburg Central Catholic (17-2) vs. 12-Sewickley Academy (5-12)

5 p.m. Tuesday at Plum

Winner plays: Winner of 4-Bishop Canevin (10-6)/13-Rochester (9-7) in quarterfinals May 19 (time, site TBD)

Players to watch: Anthony Grippo, Greensburg Central Catholic; Billy Pietragallo, Sewickley Academy

Extra bases: The Centurions won Section 1 at 11-1. They average 9.6 runs per game. Their only losses came against OLSH and Carmichaels. They have won nine straight games. GCC junior Ian Shipley is hitting .418 and Anthony Grippo, also a junior, is hitting .648 with 26 RBIs. Pitcher Tyler Samide is 6-0 with an ERA of 1.79. … Sewickley Academy finished fourth in Section 3 at 4-6. The Panthers allow nearly 10 runs per game. Sewickley Academy junior Billy Pietragallo is hitting .388 and has scored 15 runs. Senior Nolan Donnelly has 10 RBIs.
