Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League begins 2024 season

The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Softball League kicked off its 2024 season Sunday afternoon with four doubleheaders.
Mt. Lebanon swept its way past Baldwin by a combined 34-5.
North Allegheny and Bethel Park, Seneca Valley and Shaler, and Hempfield and Plum all split their opening two-game sets.
Montour and West Allegheny will open their seasons this Sunday. Montour will take on Plum at Montour High School with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., while West Allegheny hosts North Allegheny for two games at 1 and 3 p.m. at Oakdale Borough Field.
Montour is the defending WPISL varsity champion, while Plum finished as the 2023 playoff runner-up.
In addition to the start of the varsity season last weekend, the league’s JV and junior high teams opened their fall seasons with kickoff tournaments.
Mt. Lebanon was crowned the JV champion, while Montour captured the junior high tournament.
