Volleyball coaches association releases WPIAL boys rankings for Week 3

The Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its Week 3 boys rankings Monday, and North Allegheny and Derry remain at the top in Class AAA and AA, respectively.

Each set of rankings is compiled through a vote of the WPIAL’s 39 head coaches.

Also in Class AAA, Bethel Park, Shaler and Latrobe each moved up one spot to second through fourth, respectively. Seneca Valley is up two spots to No. 5, and Norwin slid from No. 2 to No. 6.

Rounding out the top 10, in order, are Hempfield, Penn-Trafford, Pine-Richland and Armstrong.

Also receiving votes in Class AAA are Butler, Peters Township and Canon-McMillan.

Derry is No. 1 in Class AA for the second week in a row. The top four are the same with Seton La Salle at No. 2 followed by Ambridge and OLSH.

Beaver County Christian moves to No. 5, and Bishop Canevin slips one spot to No. 6.

The rest of the top 10 has Obama Academy at No. 7, North Catholic at No. 8, Thomas Jefferson at No. 9 and Deer Lakes at No. 10.

Recognized by the coaches as the Class AAA Players of the Week are Bethel Park senior outside hitter Max Cooley, Hempfield junior outside hitter Will Kuhns and Shaler junior libero Grant Newland.

Players of the Week for Class AA are Obama Academy senior right-side hitter Ta’Shown Taylor, OLSH senior outside hitter Andrew Schnarre and Keystone Oaks senior outside hitter Zac Smith.
