Mt. Lebanon’s Anderson named state’s top cross country runner by Gatorade

Mt. Lebanon runner Patrick Anderson, who won WPIAL and PIAA titles in the fall, was named this week as the state’s Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The 5-foot-8, 150-pound junior also placed sixth at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional in Bronx, N.Y., and finished 29th at the national Foot Locker championship Dec. 8 in San Diego.
The award was announced Monday.
“I’ve been coaching for 53 years and Patrick Anderson is the best all-around kid that I’ve had,” Mt. Lebanon coach Mike Agostinella said. “We knew that he was going to be pretty good this year, and he ended up having a great season. He’s a very, very aggressive runner and he’s really developed a lot of confidence.”
Anderson is the first WPIAL athlete to win the boys award since North Hills’ Zach Hedba in 2010-11 .
Marlee Starliper of Northern High School in Dillsburg was named as the state’s top girls runner.
