WPIAL soccer season opens Friday. Here are the Tribune-Review boys preseason rankings.

Class AAAA

1. Peters Township (18-5) — The Indians fell just short of a WPIAL title after a 2-1 loss to Seneca Valley in the championship. Despite having a short-handed lineup, Peters Township rallied to reach the PIAA semifinals. Bucknell recruit Hannah Stuck and defender Cecilia Scott, a Michigan State recruit, are back.

2. Seneca Valley (17-3)

3. Norwin (15-3)

4. Pine-Richland (15-4)

5. North Allegheny (11-6-1)

Class AAA

1. Mars (19-2) — On the back of 16 shutouts last season, the Planets made the WPIAL championship game and state quarterfinals. Pitt recruit Ellie Coffield returns at midfield.

2. Oakland Catholic (20-2)

3. Belle Vernon (13-4)

4. Hampton (18-6)

5. Kiski Area (14-5)

Class AA

1. South Park (21-3) — The Eagles soared to their fourth WPIAL title and could have the talent to do it again, led by senior forward Haliegh Finale.

2. Hopewell (15-3-1)

3. Brownsville (13-5)

4. Deer Lakes (17-3-1)

5. Yough (11-6)

Class A

1. Greensburg Central Catholic (12-4) — College talent is abound for the Centurions, who came up short in the WPIAL semifinals and missed the PIAA playoffs. Sophomore Tatum Gretz (Villanova) and senior midfielder Brenna Springer (Akron) return for GCC.

2. Shady Side Academy (14-5)

3. Freedom (23-2)

4. Bentworth (18-4)

5. Springdale (11-7)
