Trib HSSN girls basketball player of the week: London Creach

School: Oakland Catholic

Class: Junior

Height: 5-foot-8

Position: Forward

What coach says: “What stood out in London’s play against McKeesport was how calm she remained when we were down 9-0,” Oakland Catholic coach Eddie Benton said. “She did a great job of making sure that her teammates didn’t panic and then she completely took the game over.

“She has been phenomenal thus far her junior season. London isn’t a vocal leader, but she leads in many different ways. One thing she does well is she speaks up when she needs to. She is always willing to help the younger players or anyone who needs it. She understands our system and she is able to play multiple positions.

“Most importantly, London is a good person and a joy to be around. I’m just glad she’s on my team, and I don’t have to play against her.”

#Earned: In a big showdown game Monday between Class 5A powers and with first place in Section 3-5A at stake, London came calling with a big game as the junior scored 21 points to lead host Oakland Catholic past McKeesport, 58-49. On Thursday, the Eagles (16-0, 7-0) began the second half of their section schedule with a 66-47 victory over visiting Latrobe as Creach tallied 26 points.

Background: Creach began her scholastic career as a freshman at Woodland Hills before transferring to Oakland Catholic her sophomore season. The only underclassmen starter as a sophomore last season, Creach helped the Eagles reach the WPIAL championship and the PIAA semifinals where they lost to South Fayette each time. The name London came from her older sister, who was a fan of the character, London Tipton, in the television show, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”
