Trib 10: Power rankings get major shakeup after WPIAL semifinals

The 2024 WPIAL diamond playoffs concluded the final-four round this past week, and it was the end of golden road for four baseball and four softball teams.

It also ended their stay in the HSSN power rankings … for now.

Four baseball and four softball teams ranked last week in the Trib 10 lost and saw their hopes for a WPIAL championship disappear.

However, some of these teams have or could have a second chance via the district consolation games for a spot in the PIAA state playoffs.

One of the biggest eyebrow raisers of the postseason saw the No. 1 softball team from last week see its season end.

Hempfield was stunned by rival Norwin in the 6A semifinals, ending the Spartans’ season and lifting the Knights to their first softball title game.

That result also lifted Seneca Valley back into the pole position in softball while Riverside remains No. 1 in baseball.

Here are the latest power rankings. Teams are listed with overall record and last week’s ranking. These weekly rankings have zero classification boundaries.
