Trib 10: Big schools move to front of the line in 1st edition of WPIAL football power rankings

It’s our first look at which teams have the power in WPIAL football, at least through Week Zero.

The inaugural edition of the weekly Trib 10 power rankings is top heavy with big schools.

The top two schools are the top two teams in our latest Trib HSSN Class 6A rankings.

However, after that, four of the next six teams are from Class 4A.

Here are the first Trib 10 power rankings for 2023. Teams are listed with overall record and this week’s opponent. These rankings have zero classification boundaries.

5. Thomas Jefferson, 1-0, The Jaguars host Baldwin on Friday

6. McKeesport, 1-0, The Tigers host Penn-Trafford on Friday

7. Belle Vernon, 0-0, The Leopards visit Laurel Highlands on Friday

8. Central Valley, 1-0, The Warriors visit Avonworth on Friday

9. Steel Valley, 0-0, The Ironmen host Sto-Rox on Friday

10. Canon-McMillan, 1-0, The Big Macs visit No. 1 North Allegheny on Friday
