The Indians, who are 4-4 this season in AAA Section 5, won all three sets by scores of 25-5, 25-11 and 25-18 over the Warriors, who have a 7-1 record in AA Section 2.

Chicks Picks – Week Five – 2014
September 25, 2014
Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Becoming a local celebrity has its perks, and Chick’s Picks was set to enjoy yet another last weekend. The resident WPIAL football prognosticator was asked by the Pittsburgh Pirates to throw out the first pitch Saturday night when they took on the Brewers. Chick’s Picks did not hesitate to accept the offer, especially considering the tremendous success the Pirates have had this season.
Game night arrived. Chick’s Picks was escorted onto the field by the Pirates PR staff. As she stepped onto the mound, she took it all in—the bright lights, the sellout crowd of over 37,000 fans, and even the famous Pirates Pierogies. Then, the nerves set in.

WPIAL Big Game Hunting – Week Five – 09/24/2014
September 24, 2014
Welcome to week five of Big Game Hunting. Before we get started a word from our sponsor (yours truly). I am already on the record with regard to this issue but it seems I am the lone voice crying out in the wilderness. I hate the seven o’clock starts! There seems to be an overwhelming movement towards them and it is very frustrating. Why is the hurry that already consumes our everyday lives being allowed to worm its way into my favorite thing? I find it despicable, truly. There I have gotten that off my chest and since I know holding my breath and stomping my feet will not help I will just go Big Game Hunting. Super-irritated by the fact that three of the four-pack are of the shameful seven o’clock start variety.

August 26, 2014
Dual-threat quarterbacks seem to be all the rage in football these days – and it shows on the Elite 11 team.
The Elite 11 is made up of the top 11 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position. It is picked by the MSA Sports staff. This year’s team includes three quarterbacks who are dual-threats. In other words, they are excellent runners as well as passers.
The dual-threat QBs are Seneca Valley’s T.J. Holl, Quaker Valley’s Dane Jackson and Ringgold’s Nico Law.
But the Elite 11 is not without a traditional dropback QB. South Fayette’s Brett Brumbaugh might end up the most prolific passer in WPIAL history.
Overall, nine seniors and two juniors are on the team. Here is a look at the MSA Elite 11.

CTK ’14: WPIAL AAA Parkway Conference Preview
August 14, 2014
The Parkway Conference has dominated the WPIAL title picture since 2009. The last five champions have come from the conference and in three of the last five, two conference teams have played each other in the title game. The Parkway has been represented at Heinz Field every year since 2005.
It has to start with the coaches, who have racked up 14 WPIAL titles at their current schools. Even the newcomer to the conference, has made two title game appearances. Add in a pair of coaches who won gold as players and you have a great collection of championship gold and some tough football games.
Five playoff spots are guaranteed in the conference, a sixth is possible with the WPIAL wild card, that race for post season play will be exciting as always.

Scholastic Notebook – 04/25/2014
April 25, 2014
Football is only four months away and basketball ended only last month. But the coaching wheels are turning in both sports.
There were a number of coaching moves this week in the WPIAL, some of them noteworthy. Here are some coaching happenings this week.
In football:
* Deer Lakes turned to a former NFL player as its new coach. Steve Sciullo takes over a team that did not win a game last season. Sciullo graduated from Shaler in 1988 and then played at Marshall before playing offensive line in the NFL for a few seasons. He has been an assistant coach at Hampton.
* Norwin hired Dave Brozeski. He has been an assistant at Norwin for the past 17 years.
