Stretch Run high school football action continued with another busy Friday in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Today we focus not just on the biggest numbers put up on the Eighth Friday of this 2012 campaign, but on those top outings in games with big stakes...some ended long postseason droughts while others kept their team alive to fight another week or sealed the deal on one of the top spots in their conference. WPIAL Football Plays of the Week – Week Four

At the end of the season, we won’t be looking back at Week 4 as one of “those” weeks with dramatic moments, miracle finishes and big games. In fact, 62 of the 67 games were decided by at least two touchdowns. Regardless, we were able to sift through the blowouts and find the three most meaningful plays from the weekend.

CTK 2012 – WPIAL AA Allegheny Conference

Freeport and Shady Side Academy tied for the conference championship two of the past three seasons. This year could be more of the same.
Many are pegging Freeport and Shady Side Academy as the teams to beat this year. Both teams are experienced and have some talented players. But Burrell and Ford City can’t be overlooked.
The Allegheny Conference changed a little this season. Apollo-Ridge and West Shamokin both dropped out of the conference and moved down to the Class A Eastern Conference. That should help West Shamokin, which hasn’t won a game since the 2007 season.

Scholastic Notebook – 06/22/2012

Joe Dunn was known as one of the good guys among WPIAL basketball coaches. But that fraternity is now minus one good guy.
Dunn resigned as Trinity High School’s boys coach last week. He wouldn’t rule out returning to coaching someday, but for now, he wants to spend more time with his family. Dunn and his wife have two daughters and a son.
Dunn has been coaching for 26 years and had other successful coaching stints at Mount Pleasant and Seton-LaSalle. Dunn became pretty good at taking down programs and turning them into more than respectable. He did it at Mount Pleasant and he did it at Trinity, where he was coach since 2001.
