Scholastic Notebook – 11/20/2015
November 20, 2015
In his first season as a starter, Pine-Richland sophomore quarterback Phil Jurkovec has played his way into the WPIAL spotlight, becoming only the second QB in WPIAL history to throw for 2,000 yards and run for 1,000.
But there is another sophomore quarterback at the Class AAAA level who also has made a gigantic impact in his first season as a starter.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Troy Fisher doesn’t have the jaw-dropping statistics like Jurkovec, but Fisher has uplifted the Vikings’ offense with his passing and running, and also helped the team reach the WPIAL Class AAAA semifinals.

Dominant Norwin Wins WPIAL Girls AAA Title
November 7, 2015
The top-seeded Norwin Knights continued their incredible defensive run with a dominatin 3-0 over the Upper Saint Clair Panthers at Highmark Stadium at Station Square Friday night to win their first WPIAL girls soccer championship since 1997.
The Knights dominated throughout finally cracking the scoreboard in the 21st minute of play when Emily Harrigan headed a perfect cross from Lexie Kolano to the upper left hand corner of the goal behind USC keeper Nikki Gibbons for a 1-0 lead. As has been the case 18 times this season, that single goal would be all the Knights needed. The goal for Harrigan was her 19th of the season.

Chicks Picks – Week 9 – 2015
October 29, 2015
Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season.
Each year, Chick’s Picks heads up the official MSA Sports Network Halloween Costume Committee. This is a critical role, as finding a group costume that suits the personalities of the entire MSA Sports Network team can be quite a challenge. After managing this task for 15 years and running low on ideas, Chick’s Picks found this challenge to be exceptionally daunting this Halloween.
Then, an email came through from The Boss, and it suddenly all made sense. The Boss wrote, “MSA Sports will continue our tradition in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing PINK on Friday. Do what you can to wear pink for the cause at your football game.”

WPIAL Big Game Hunting – Week Nine 2015
October 28, 2015
Week Nine brings with it some big time rivalry games that are made extra special by the fact that they all have additional meaning and immediate impact on the playoffs. The Highway to Heinz is made so much less bumpy if that first round “on ramp” is freshly paved at your home field, and not freshly paved over a seemingly never-ending amount of time with insane restrictions the way Penn Dot is doing with the Parkway West; but, rather a nice regular season-ending victory over your biggest rival. Sorry I got a little off track there, but nonetheless one last time in the 2015 regular season, let’s go Big Game Hunting!

Hometown Boys Soccer Recap – Upper St. Clair Panthers – 10/11/2015
October 11, 2015
On a crisp clear fall afternoon two long time rivals got together in a Hometown soccer game at Upper Saint Clair high school. The home standing Panthers came away with an impressive 7-0 victory over the Blue Devils.
Rivals in every sport and neighboring communities everyone was looking forward to this clash, but the Panthers on senior day had an easy time handling their neighbor. USC opened the scoring on a goal from Steffano Paolino at 11:07 of the first half. The Panthers tic tac toed passes around from right to left and he was wide open in front to tap it in for a 1-0 lead.

WPIAL Friday Night HighLights – Week Six
October 10, 2015
While the mercury continues to dip as October and autumn settle in, the lineup of big games was red hot up and down the FOUR classifications around the WPIAL. Battles for first place here, showdowns between unbeaten teams there, big games, big games everywhere. Some of them lived up to their billing and thrilled the huge crowds on hands, some were closer early before the final results was no so tight, and others were just an old fashioned butt whipping. Whatever the case, big game or not, here are the players that stood out in various playoff like atmosphere's in only Week Six.
Philip Jurkovec - Pine-Richland

Hometown Boys Soccer Recap – Upper St. Clair Panthers – 10/08/2015
October 8, 2015
Logan Brinsky's goal in the 45th minute lifted Peters Township (9-3-2, 6-2-1) to a 1-0 victory over Upper St. Clair (8-5-1, 6-3-0) in Class AAA's Section 5 on Thursday night.
Brinsky, who had a number of scoring chances throughout the night, would finally capitalize just moments after a near miss, taking a long pass in the middle of the field, sneaking behind the Panthers' back row and tucking a shot inside of the far goal post, just out of the reach of Upper St. Clair goalkeeper Mack Dominick.
Without Dominick, the match would likely have been far more lopsided, as the junior netminder made a variety of difficult saves during the course of a physical and chippy game.

Chicks Picks – Week 5 – 2015
October 1, 2015
Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. After missing out on last Friday night’s football action due to a scheduling conflict, Chick’s Picks came down with a nasty case of the somethings on Saturday. When this bug continued to wreak havoc for a few days, Chick’s Picks decided it was time to seek help from the good doctor.
At the exam, Chick’s Picks began explaining her symptoms to the doc. He seemed as bewildered as she was, unable to pinpoint the cause of the illness. The doc continued his questioning though, “Chick’s Picks, give me a timeline of your last few days before the illness hit you.”

Hometown Girls Soccer Recap – Upper St. Clair Panthers – 09/29/2015
September 29, 2015
Upper St Clair and Peters Township are two of the most celebrated soccer programs in the WPIAL and every time the two squads do battle with each other, one can expect a classic. Monday night's matchup at USC was no different as the Indians edged the Panthers 2-1.
After a bit of a feeling-out process in the early going, the Indians struck first in the 12th minute off of a corner kick. An accidental own goal was scored when the ball ricocheted off a USC defender into the net. The goal was credited to PT's Brianne Latsko, and the Indians took a 1-nil lead.

Chicks Picks – Week 4 – 2015
September 24, 2015
Welcome to Week 4 of the high school football season.
Last Friday night, as Chick’s Picks monitored the various MSA Sports Network social media feeds, she noticed a newcomer to the Twittersphere – one who called himself @avonworthmascot. Could it be? Could Chick’s Picks’ favorite WPIAL mascot of all time finally be here on Twitter? Without hesitation, Chick’s Picks clicked the “Follow” button.
Moments later, Chick’s Picks received a Twitter notification of her own, letting her know that she had a new follower: @avonworthmascot himself. Chick’s Picks was flattered to say the least, and immediately showed her delight with a happy dance throughout MSA Sports World Headquarters, much to the dismay of The Boss.
