Pine-Richland, Freeport & Frazier Capture 2010 WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championships

A pair of schools are celebrating their first ever WPIAL girls volleyball championships after victories on Saturday at Franklin Regional High School. Frazier in Class A and Freeport in Class AA claimed inaugural hardwood gold while Pine-Richland won the Class AAA crown for the third time in school history and the Rams first title since 2005.

Hats off to the WPIAL Girls Volleyball steering committee as they got all of the top two seeds playing for the Championships in all three classifications this season. This particular conflict featured two northern suburban schools that do not have an affinity for one another on the volleyball court.

Fox Chapel and Central Valley Win First Ever WPIAL Girls Team Golf D-I and D-II Titles

It was a historic day for WPIAL girl's golf Thursday at the Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon. On the first year the district crowned two champions instead of one, Fox Chapel won gold for the first time in school history led by the first family of girl's golf, Nadia and Katerina Luttner.

Erie McDowell is back in the Northern Seven Conference. This time for real. In 2006 and 2007, McDowell played a conference schedule, but McDowell could not qualify for the WPIAL playoffs because it was still a District 10 team. When the playoffs would come around, McDowell would compete in District 10.

2010 WPIAL Schedules: Girls Soccer

Seneca Valley captured a second WPIAL girls soccer title in three years while Springdale finally knocked South Park off of its three year stay atop the WPIAL Class AA world. The Raiders and Dynamos were the last of the duo champions in girls soccer as expansion has grown the sport to three classifications this fall.
