WPIAL athletes found plenty of success at the PIAA Class 2A singles and doubles girls tennis tournament Friday.

In WPIAL finals rematch, Knoch tops Sewickley Academy for PIAA girls team tennis title

In a rematch of the WPIAL Class 2A team tennis finals, Knoch defeated Sewickley Academy, 4-1, Saturday afternoon to win the school’s second state championship.

Liam Gibson rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns to lead Beaver to a 48-13 win over Hopewell (3-7, 2-4) in Class 3A Western Hills Conference play on Friday night.

We Serve First Foundation to host inaugural girls volleyball all-star event

Area high school girls volleyball seniors, and the game itself, will be celebrated Dec. 10 as the inaugural We Serve First All-Star Classic will be at Kiski Area High School.

Burrell’s Tom Brown scored on a 5-yard run with 4:30 to go and booted the subsequent extra point to give the Bucs a hard-fought, 14-13 victory at Knoch on Oct. 25, 1982. Brown later played for Pitt and the Dolphins.
