They saved the best for last. Upper St. Clair denied Canon-McMillan a repeat of the Penguins Cup Class AAA crown with a thrilling overtime victory to close out the very first high school hockey championships at the new CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Third Time Still Golden For Mars in Winning Class A Penguins Cup Championship Again

The Mars Planets won their third straight Class A Penguins Cup with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Hampton Talbots Sunday at the Consol Energy Center. Austin Heakins notched a four point performance with two goals and two assists. Goalie Tyler Stepke was fantastic once again, stopping all 23 shots he faced.

Gateway, Montour, Monessen and Vincentian Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Basketball Titles

2011 turns into the yeaqr of virgin winners. With Gateway beating Chartiers Valley in Class AAAA, Montour beating top-seed South Fayette in Class AAA and Vincentian Academy taking care of Lincoln Park in Class A, championship weekend sees three school lift the golden ball for the first time in school history.

Shaler, Blackhawk, Seton-LaSalle and North Catholic Are Golden Girls in 2011 WPIAL Girls Basketball
Mount Lebanon and Jeannette entered championship weekend searching for more gold. The Blue Devils won WPIAL AAAA crowns in 2009 and 2010 while the Jayhawks captured AA gold last winter. But there would be no repeats in 2011. Shaler knocked out Mount Lebanon to win their second girls title and first in 31 years.
