CTK 2012 – WPIAL AAA Greater Allegheny Conference Preview

It’s not a complete facelift for the Greater Allegheny Conference, but the conference sure looks a lot different this season. With the WPIAL’s realignment, the Greater Allegheny got bigger overall and added a little Keystone Conference flavor. What happened to the Greater Allegheny Conference is basically a two-fold thing: 1. Kittanning and Valley dropped out of the conference and moved down to Class AA. 2. Derry, Franklin Regional, Greensburg Salem and Hollidaysburg all were moved out of the Keystone and into the Greater Allegheny. The much-maligned Keystone Conference is no more. As for the Greater Allegheny race, it seems just about everybody is picking Franklin Regional as the team to beat.

Hampton Beats GCC Again To Repeat as D-II Boys Lacrosse Champs
May 25, 2012
At Chartiers Valley high school in the WPIAL Boys Division II Lacrosse Championship, the Hampton Talbots defeat the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions by a score of 16-7. The Centurions have won 2 WPIAL titles in a row and their 3rd in 4 years, all over GCC.In the first period the Talbots raced to a 4-0 lead. Dylan Szramowski scored the hat trick getting three goals in the first ten minutes to make it 3-0 Hampton. Jon Nigro scored with :42 seconds remaining in the first and Hampton led 4-0.

Hampton Repeats in D-II While Seneca Valley Wins D-I WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Title

SSA Settles for Silver in PIAA Boys Team Tennis

The WPIAL Class AAA boys team tennis champions cam close to adding state gold to their trophy case, but in the end, Shady Side Academy had to settle for silver. The Indians fell in the PIAA Class AAA finals four games to one to Conestoga Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club. Sewickley Academy Wins 8th Straight WPIAL Boys Team Tennis AA Title While Shady Side Academy Wins AAA Gold

Eight is definitely Great for Sewickley Academy boys tennis. The Panthers Friday celebrated their 8th consecutive WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Class AA championship with a victory over the Hampton Talbots. Sewickley Academy continued an impressive district domination of a team sport with their 16th championship in the last 18 years. Meanwhile, Shady Side Academy squeeked by defending champion Mount Lebanon to win the AAA crown. The Indians title is the second in three years and fourth in school history. WPIAL Hall of Fame Class of 2012

Neil Walker is known for his baseball talent. The current Pirates second baseman had an unforgettable baseball career at Pine-Richland High School and was a first-round draft pick. But it is what Walker also did in other sports that helped earn him a spot in the WPIAL Hall of Fame. The WPIAL Hall of Fame class for 2012 was announced Thursday at a news conference, and Walker was one of the selections. Walker was in Los Angeles with the Pirates, but his father was at the news conference at the Heinz History Center in the Strip District. Walker had a terrific baseball career at Pine-Richland, starting four seasons and batting .504 for his career. He hit .657 as a senior with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and a 1.403 slugging percentage for a WPIAL championship team.
