GCC Crushes Freedom For 3rd Girls A Soccer Title in 4 Years
November 1, 2014
The start was at 11:00am, but for the Freedom Bulldogs it may as well been at midnight. Freedom was not able to finish off their Cinderella run when they lost to the top seeded Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions 9-1 in WPIAL Class A Soccer Championships.
The game started out like the semi-final game for Freedom vs Shady Side Academy and they controlled the ball and played offense most of the first five minutes. The problem was though after that it was all Centurions.
Greensburg opened the scoring when senior Cassie Sauder took a shot from twenty yards out and it cleared the Bulldogs keeper Jacklyn Hartle at the 7:58 mark.

Has there ever been a WPIAL football regular season that was so perfect as this one? Probably not.
Fourteen teams go into the final night of the regular season with undefeated records. Two of them play (West Allegheny at Central Valley). That means there could be 13 teams that finish the regular season with perfect records. That would be the most in the WPIAL in a long time. Possibly ever.
Checking records going back 37 years, there has never been a WPIAL season with 13 undefeated and untied teams (there used to no overtime in WPIAL football).

Chicks Picks – Week Nine – 2014
October 23, 2014
Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season. Every so often, Chick’s Picks has a run in with an internet heckler, one who enjoys stirring up some healthy banter over predictions that are not necessarily agreed upon. This occurred last week on Twitter, regarding one particular big-game pick.
The loyal reader’s taunting began shortly after Chick’s Picks was posted on Thursday, calling out the prognosticator for what was deemed a terrible prediction. Chick’s Picks monitored the situation closely throughout the day, noticing that the same reader also called out other local prognosticators for the same prediction.

Chicks Picks – Week Eight – 2014
October 16, 2014
Welcome to Week 8 of the high school football season. The Stretch Run continues this week as we near the end of the regular season. Each year at this time, Chick’s Picks likes to celebrate the Stretch Run by seeking out the latest fitness trend and planning a group activity involving it with all of Team MSA. This year, her activity of choice was Aerial Yoga.
Aerial Yoga is a new way to practice traditional yoga, which involves the use of fabric hammocks suspended from the ceiling. Participants use the hammocks to explore fluid, floating poses, rather than classic mat yoga poses.

Maybe you’ve heard the quote “Down goes Frazier, Down goes Frazier.” It is a line from legendary sports announcer Howard Cosell, describing boxer Joe Frazier after he went down from a George Foreman punch in a famous 1973 bout.
In WPIAL football this year, it is “Up goes Frazier, Up goes Frazier.”
Things haven’t been this good in Perryopolis (where Frazier is located) since 10 years after that Frazier-Foreman fight. The Frazier Commodores are 5-0 and have a showdown tonight with Beth-Center for first place in the Tri-County South Conference. The winner likely will win the Tri-County South title. Frazier has not started a season 5-0 since 1983, when the school made it all the way to the WPIAL Class A championship game before losing to Western Beaver.

2014 WPIAL Girls Singles Tennis Championship Results
The first district championships of the 2014-2015 school year were decided Thursday with a pair of first time title winner crowned at the Shady Side Academy tennis courts Thursday afternoon. The battle of sisters never really materialized in the Class AA finals as junior Alyvia Kluska and sophomore Michaela Kluska played four games, then shook hands and announced that Alyvia would win the title via default. Last year, the two sisters were scheduled to meet in the consolation match and older sister Alyvia forfeited so younger sister Michaela could qualify for the states. Both sisters qualify for the PIAA singles playoffs next month. In Class AAA, top-seed junior Ananya Dua won on her home court by beating Charlotte Madson in straight sets to win the championship.
