Chicks Picks for Week Nine
October 27, 2016
Welcome to Week 9 of the high school football season. As regular season play wraps up, Chick’s Picks knew that she needed to check in on The Boss at MSA Sports World Headquarters. For quite some time, Chick’s Picks had been aware of the overtime put in by The Boss this time of year. However, what she witnessed when she walked into World Headquarters was still a shock.
There he was, The Boss, pecking away at his keyboard relentlessly with his two index fingers. Moments later, when The Boss finally realized that he had a visitor, Chick’s Picks noticed his tired, bloodshot eyes, unkempt hair, and disorder throughout his office.

Big Game Hunting for Week Nine 2016
The final week of the regular season arrives and things are still a bit murky around the WPIAL, but as always the “Boss” has made it clear and precise, if you have questions about your team and their post season needs or desires, it is laid out here, http://www.msasports.net/articles/2016-wpial-football-playoff-picture. That amount of work can only be a labor of love, and when the boss is doing a labor of love, the worker-bees will almost always do the same. Like the famous line in Remember the Titans, “Attitude reflects leadership”. So, this opening paragraph is dedicated to my colleagues, each of them I know, doing this job because they love it.

Penn-Trafford Warriors Hometown Boys Soccer Broadcast Recap – 10/15/2016
October 15, 2016
Dominance thy name was Penn-Trafford on the "pitch" Saturday afternoon as the Warriors downed the Gateway Gators 3-0 at a sun-soaked Penn-Trafford High School.
The score doesn't even give a fair indication as to how Penn-Trafford (15-1) dominated the game, as the majority of the play took place on the Gateway side of the field.
While it was Senior Recognition Day at Warriors Stadium, all of the scoring game from PT juniors.
Austin Kreutzberger started the scoring at the 23:01 mark of the first half with a goal, then tallied another at 11:40. The second goal came off a perfect feed from senior Austin Mossellem.

Chicks Picks for Week Seven
October 13, 2016
Welcome to Week 7 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks had a tremendous performance last week, a career week, in fact – correctly predicting 53 winners. Each Sunday, Chick’s Picks spends time reflecting on the weekend’s games, analyzing the good, the bad, and the ugly. Despite her top-notch performance, a few incorrect picks were eating at her.

MSA Sports Friday Night HighLights for Week Six
October 8, 2016
The second half of the WPIAL football season began with a BANG...albeit a very wet bang. Or in the case of Class 3-A Allegheny Conference front running Keystone Oaks, the second half began with a POWE, as in newly eligible wide receiver Quran Powe. While he had a nice debut, it was his signal calling teammate who was one of the Week 6 standouts in a rainy edition of the HighLights. Let's begin to tip our drenched caps.
Zane Dudek - Armstrong

Chicks Picks for Week Five
September 29, 2016
Welcome to Week 5 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks spends more time than she would care to admit trolling Amazon for her next potential purchase. Last week, Chick’s Picks stumbled upon a plethora of crystal balls. Tempted by the allure of the shiny, new prognosticating tools, Chick’s Picks decided that a bit of research would not hurt.
Her guilty conscience set in right away, as she struggled with the desire to upgrade her equipment despite more than 15 years of loyalty to her current crystal ball. Chick’s Picks decided to consult an expert – The Boss.

Big Game Hunting for Week Five 2016
Week Five and the drive to stay alive is no jive, if you can make it you will arrive, where you want to be. Keeping that sentence there because, as bad as it is, it did not trigger any grammatical or spelling errors in the Microsoft Word software and, I like it. Week Five has great matchups including a preview of what many think could be the eventual championship game in AAAAAA. Before we get to week five though, WOW!!!! What a night at Dormont Stadium in week four, Beaver and Darius Wise and, Keystone Oaks and Alex Smith put on a show for the ages. John Lee and I were there for the 77-49 win for the Bobcats and it was nothing short of breathtaking for everyone in attendance.

Big Game Hunting for Week Three 2016
September 14, 2016
In my time doing Big Game Hunting I cannot recall any other regular season week in which the top games were so obvious. Week three has it all, consistent Top-Ten battles across five of the six classifications, the two leading passers in the WPIAL, the leading rusher and scorer in the WPIAL, and three of the top six receivers in the WPIAL. All of this saves me the trouble of having to come up with an engaging and interesting opening paragraph, and let’s be honest I was only hitting about .250 at that to begin with so, without further ado, let’s go Big Game Hunting!

CTK ’16: 5-A Big East Conference Preview
August 19, 2016
The 5A Big East Conference bares a strong resemblance for the former Quad-A Foothills Conference, as Connellsville, Greater Latrobe, Kiski Area, McKeesport, Penn-Trafford and Plum all remain intact. The other three spots, though, are comprised of teams previously in the AAA Greater Allegheny Conference, Franklin Regional, Gateway and Armstrong.
Six of the nine squads qualified for the postseason last year, with Penn-Trafford reaching Heinz Field for the Quad-A title game and McKeesport also ranking among Quad-A's best. If the Warriors and Tigers take even a slight step back this year, though, the conference could be wide open.

CTK ’16: New WPIAL Football Coaches
August 15, 2016
New Faces - New Places - New Hopes - New Dreams. While there were two fewer coaching changes this off-season then before the 2015 campaign, there were a couple of big names that hung up the whistle after last fall. Legendary McKeesport coach George Smith retired for a second time while record setting coach Tom Nola exited at Gateway. There are a lot of rookie head coaches getting their first crack, and some coaches who are just changing hats and addresses. Whatever the case, there are 17 coaching changes coming into this 2016 season. Here are the new football coaches that will be running the sidelines in the WPIAL this fall.
CLASS 6-A:
ALTOONA - Nick Felus replaces John Franco
