CTK 2015 – Class AAA Parkway Conference Preview
August 20, 2015
It wouldn’t exactly be going out on a limb to predict that a team from the Parkway Conference will make the WPIAL Class AAA championship. After all, the past six Class AAA champs have come from the Parkway. In fact, over those six seasons, 10 of the 12 title game participants have come from the Parkway.
It’s very likely that the Parkway will have another team in the championship game this year. But figuring out who that team will be isn’t easy.

Beaver Falls High School is trying to make sure the school’s 1975 baseball team won’t be forgotten. At a baseball game in two weeks, the ’75 team that won a WPIAL title will be honored before a Beaver Falls game.
No one is quite ready to call this year’s Beaver Falls team championship caliber, but the Tigers are doing a pretty good job of grabbing some attention for themselves.
It’s still extremely early in the WPIAL baseball season, but Beaver Falls is 3-0. That might not sound like much, but considering the past few years, it is a gigantic step forward for Beaver Falls.

2014-2015 MSA SPORTS BOYS ALL-NETTERS
March 20, 2015
If there would be a catch phrase that would describe the boys All-Netters team, it would be “On Guard.” The All-Netters team is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL, as selected by the MSA Sports staff. This year’s first team is made up of five guards. The second team has three guards.
Nine seniors make up this year’s team. The only two Division I college signees in the WPIAL this year also are on the team.
Here is a look at the All-Netters teams as well as the Player of the Year.
FIRST TEAM
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Matty McConnell, Chartiers Valley
6-1, Sr., G

Chassidy Omogrosso is Blackhawk’s Energizer bunny.
The senior guard on the Blackhawk girls basketball team seemingly never stops on the court. Her motor is stuck on overdrive. While Comcast has bundle deals for cable television, Blackhawk has a bundle full of energy in Omogrosso.
Omogrosso’s “run” through the recent WPIAL tournament was one to behold.
She was close to unstoppable in the Class AAA playoffs, leading the Cougars to a second consecutive WPIAL title last Saturday at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center. No one has records for what is the greatest playoff run – scoring wise – for WPIAL girls basketball. But Omogrosso has to be somewhere near the top.

Chartiers Valley’s Maria Lohman Wins 4th WPIAL AAA Diving Title
February 16, 2015
It was a perfect day for Chartiers Valley’s Maria Lohman, who set a personal best mark with 603.50 points in winning her fourth WPIAL championship in the WPIAL Girls Class AAA Diving Championship at North Allegheny High School. Lohman bested Mallory Charles of Pine-Richland by over 130 points to claim the gold and another trip to Bucknell University for the PIAA championship next month.
Lohman is the defending PIAA champion and looks to win for a third time on the state level. With a 43 diver field in the preliminary round, she said she listened to her music and just concentrated on every dive. She was able to post a couple of tens on the scoreboard on the way to the win.

With a little more than a week left in the regular season, Aliquippa and Sewickley Academy are the only two undefeated teams in WPIAL boys basketball at 18-0.
For both, it is a return to glory this season.
Aliquippa has a rich basketball tradition, but the Quips hit a rough patch from 2010-13, compiling a record below .500 for three consecutive seasons under coach Bobby Williams. Things started to return to normal last year under first-year coach Nick Lackovich when the Quips finished 20-7.
Now, things are terrific at Aliquippa and this could be a team for the ages at the Beaver County school. It’s not known when the last time was Aliquippa finished the regular season with a perfect record. It has been at least four decades.

It is a recurring storyline at Indiana High School. The Stapletons are staples of the football team.
It has been the story in recent years at Indiana, and it is again this season. Two of the four Stapleton brothers had big impacts on the Little Indians’ opening-night upset victory against Mars last Friday. Riley Stapleton, a 6-5 senior receiver, caught seven passes for 95 yards and scored a touchdown. Dylan Stapleton, a 6-4 junior, caught five passes for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns.

CTK ’14: WPIAL AAA Parkway Conference Preview
August 14, 2014
The Parkway Conference has dominated the WPIAL title picture since 2009. The last five champions have come from the conference and in three of the last five, two conference teams have played each other in the title game. The Parkway has been represented at Heinz Field every year since 2005.
It has to start with the coaches, who have racked up 14 WPIAL titles at their current schools. Even the newcomer to the conference, has made two title game appearances. Add in a pair of coaches who won gold as players and you have a great collection of championship gold and some tough football games.
Five playoff spots are guaranteed in the conference, a sixth is possible with the WPIAL wild card, that race for post season play will be exciting as always.
