WPIAL Softball Consolation Recaps

Eight teams had to wait an extra 24 hours to see if their season would continue after the WPIAL postponed all four softball consolation games from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon. For Hempfield, West Allegheny, Chartiers-Houston and Burgettstown, it was worth the wait as they picked up victories and now move on to the PIAA state softball playoffs while Peters Township, West Mifflin, Beaver and Frazier see their successful 2013 campaign come to an end.

Saying “it’s time to move on,” Chartiers Valley’s Chris Saluga will coached his final game with the Colts Friday night. Saluga has decided to resign as Chartiers Valley’s football coach, effective after Friday night’s game against West Allegheny. Saluga already has handed in his letter of resignation to the school board. “I don’t know how to say it, other than it’s just time for me to move on,” Saluga said. “I’ve done all I can here.”

Central Valley Girls Win PIAA AA Team Golf Championship
October 25, 2012
Thanks in part to Macky Fouse's 77 on Wednesday, the Central Valley girls golf team captured the PIAA Class AA team championship at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York. The Warriors become only the second WPIAL girls team to win a state golf championship, following the Shady Side Academy Indians, who won state crowns in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Pgh Central & Burgettstown Win WPIAL Boys Golf Championships

From 1998 through 2001, Burgettstown captured four straight WPIAL Division II championships. They hadn't won one since, but the eleven year drought ended Thursday as the Blue Devils captured the Class AA crown with Owen Miller leading the way with a 74. CTK 2012 – WPIAL AA Century Conference Preview

Two years ago, South Fayette was the king of the Century Conference and ended up as the golden boys in the end with a WPIAL championship to show for their efforts. Last year, it was Seton-LaSalle that was perfect through the regular season until their hopes of a district title ended with a Semifinals loss to Jeannette.Who will rise to the top in what has been one of the more balanced conferences in the WPIAL here in 2012?There was some off-season tweaking as the conference grew from eight to nine teams for the next two autumns. The Washington Little Prexies have returned to the Class AA Interstate Conference while a pair of teams move down as both the South park Eagles and the McGuffey Highlanders come into the conference from the Class AAA Big Eight Conference.
