Big Game Hunting – Week Nine
October 25, 2017
I often think how funny it is to see all the work that goes into figuring out playoff scenarios, especially some of the deep-down tiebreaker stuff. The procrastinator in me just says, “week nine is coming, it will all be sorted right out there, so why bother doing the actual math?” Once again, as it […]

WPIAL Plays of the Week – Week Eight 2017
October 24, 2017
Unbelievably, the 2017 football regular season is already nearing a conclusion, as last Friday marked the penultimate week. As the stretch run continued, the playoff picture throughout the WPIAL became much clearer. Several key plays proved instrumental to the outcomes, including a Cinderella team standing tall defensively to close out a wild shootout, a long […]

Big Game Hunting – Week Eight
October 19, 2017
The penultimate weekend of the regular season is here and there is still so much to decide. There were some big upsets last week and some things got sorted out. Just two playoff spots remain in 6-A entering week eight and a single spot remains unclaimed in 5-A. Meanwhile in the smaller classifications things are […]

Welcome to Week 6 of the high school football season. As many of you are aware, the MSA Sports Network has now become the TribLive High School Sports Network. It felt like late September instead of late August Friday evening as more teams than last year decided to turn on the lights, charge admission and strike up the band for a football game rather than a second scrimmage. In the lone true tune-up for a lot of teams before conference play begins out of […]

CTK ’17 – 2-A Century Conference Preview
August 23, 2017
Washington took control of the new-look Century Conference in its inception in 2016. However, the Prexies were the only team from the conference to record a postseason victory. After the Prexies, there is an apparent log-jam for the remaining playoff spots out of the conference. Some teams are returning a vast majority of their starters, […]

MSA Sports Saturdays Scholastic Starz for Week Eight
October 23, 2016
Rain that made Friday night in Week eight interesting carried over into Saturday afternoon, making for a slow track at four of the five 'natural surface' sites around the WPIAL as grassy fields soon turned muddy and clean uniforms were not so much. But the late Autumn weather conditions made the afternoons and evening for these five standouts really stand out as we put a bow on the next to the last weekend of regular season high school football.

CTK ’16: 2-A Century Conference Preview
August 27, 2016
The Century Conference has been dominated lately by South Fayette, which won four consecutive conference championships from 2012-15. But there will no longer be a roar of the Lions in the Century.
With the new six-classification system, there is still a Century Conference. But South Fayette no longer is part of it. South Fayette is now part of Class 4A.
So there will be a new champion this year. Almost everyone points toward Washington as the team that will win it. But will there still be a “game of the Century?”
Here is a look at the Century Conference:
