Sterling Marte Sets Record in Altoona Curve Win at Bowie Monday

Aaron Pribanic's six innings of one-run ball combined with a four-run first inning was enough to lift the Curve to a, 5-1, series-opening win over the Bowie Baysox on Monday night at Prince George's Stadium. Starling Marte went 3-for-5 to pass Nate McLouth and become the franchise leader for hits in a season with his single in the seventh inning.

This is the second season that the Big East is a little bigger. This is the second season that Altoona is in the WPIAL and in the Big East Conference. Altoona can only hope this goes a little better than the first as the team finished 0-9 last year and was outscored 354-118.

CTK 2011 – 2010 WPIAL Class AAAA Football Flashback
It had been two decades since one of the WPIAL Class AAAA's top football programs had won a district championship. However that drought ended when North Allegheny captured gold by beating the 2009 champion Woodland Hills Wolverines in the WPIAL finals at Heinz Field. Three weeks later, the Tigers captured a second PIAA football crown to go along with the 1990 state championship they won.

There are 126 schools in the WPIAL that field a high school football team. While a majority still begin at 7:30pm, 38 of them now kickoff their home games at 7:00pm, including the enire Class AAA Keystone Conference. Altoona Curve Bitten by Sea Dogs Sunday in Loss at Portland

The Sea Dogs spoiled the finale of the season series and four-game series on Sunday afternoon as they took care of the Curve 8-5 at Hadlock Field. Portland pounded out eight runs on 15 hits off Curve pitching in the win. Starling Marte had a nice game offensively for Altoona finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while Tony Sanchez had a pair of hits and drove in three.
