Norwin sophomore Landon Sidun won’t get a chance to defend his PIAA Class 3A wrestling title.
Sidun sustained a broken right hand during the WPIAL consolation match Saturday against Thomas Jefferson at Peters Township. He was wrestling against Jacob LaBryer.
“I banged it up,” Sidun said Tuesday before his Knights wrestled Franklin Regional in a PIAA first-round match.
Sidun was having an outstanding season. He was 30-0 and had won three prestigious tournaments: Beast of the East, Powerade and Doc Buchanan Invitational in Clovis, Calif.
Sidun is 72-2 for his career. He was a WPIAL runner-up in 2024, losing to Butler’s Santino Sloboda, 5-4, in the finals.
He bounced back to capture the PIAA title by defeating Penn Manor’s Travis Clawson (12-6), Pennridge’s Colby Martinelli (pin), Northampton’s Gabriel Ballard (9-8) and Ridley’s Curtis Nelson (6-3).
“I talked to some college coaches, and they advised me to hold him out,” Norwin coach Kyle Martin said. “He wants to avoid surgery and get ready for team worlds this summer.”
Tryouts for team worlds begin in April.
