St. Joseph’s Jones reaches 1,000 career points

St. Joseph’s Alex Jones needed just one basket Friday to reach 1,000 points for her career.

She got that one basket and then some.

Jones scored 22 points, helping lead the Spartans to a 74-50 win over Clairton in a Section 3-A contest.

“It feels absolutely incredible,” Jones said. “I’m very happy I was able to finally reach 1,000.”

Jones reached the milestone with a layup on the Spartans’ first inbounds play of the game.

The senior guard came into Friday’s game with 999 career points after scoring 27 in a victory over Aquinas Academy on Thursday. For the season, she’s averaging 17.5 points per game.
