The 2010 version of the Highway to Heinz started with some postseason teams struggling while others were on fire...So while there were a fair share of blowouts, there were also some playoff contests that went down to the wire...Some of the thrillers were decided by passes, punt returns and a pick six...Allowing their respective teams to move on to be part of the Quarterfinals mix.

Pine-Richland, Freeport & Frazier Capture 2010 WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championships

A pair of schools are celebrating their first ever WPIAL girls volleyball championships after victories on Saturday at Franklin Regional High School. Frazier in Class A and Freeport in Class AA claimed inaugural hardwood gold while Pine-Richland won the Class AAA crown for the third time in school history and the Rams first title since 2005.

Peters Twp, Hampton and Seton-LaSalle Win 2010 WPIAL Boys Soccer Titles

A pair of top-seeds and a second-seed captured gold on Super Soccer Saturday. Both Seton-LaSalle in Class A and Hampton in Class AA enjoyed dominating victories while it took Peters Township two overtimes to win the Class AAA thriller, the Indians second title in three years. Peters Twp, Mars, Shady Side are the 2010 WPIAL Soccer Golden Girls

The district girls soccer championships are in the books with three new champions crowned on Super Soccer Saturday at both Baldwin and Elizabeth Forward High Schools. Both Peters Township in AAA and Shady Side Academy in A captured girls soccer crowns for the first time in school history, while Mars continued its perfect season by winning a second district AA championship and first since 2000.

Even Up, Seton-LaSalle Continues Trend of Even Year WPIAL Boys Soccer Runs With Win Over GCC

At Elizabeth Forward High School in Boys WPIAL A Soccer finals the Seton-LaSalle Rebels won in dominant fashion over the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions 3-0. The win is the fourth boys soccer title for the Rebels, with their other championships coming in 2002, 2006 and 2008.

Peters Township Finally Golden in WPIAL Girls AAA Soccer

The Peters Township Indians had always been a power as far as WPIAL Girls Soccer was concerned, yet a WPIAL Championship had always eluded them...until Saturday when they blanked the Norwin Knights 3-0 to win the 2010 WPIAL Girls Class AAA soccer championship.

Plum’s Yurovsky is the Golden Girl, While SSA’s Perelman and QV’s Caravaggio Take Silver in 2010 PIAA Girls Singles Tennis Championships

There were plenty of medals being handed out to WPIAL tennis players Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club. Back in September, Ronit Yurovsky of Plum beat Sara Perelman of Shady Side Academy in two sets to claim the WPIAL Girls Singles Tennis crown in Class AAA. Saturday afternoon, history repeated itself as Yurovsky beat Perelman again in the state finals.

Peters Twp Beats Pgh Central Catholic in Double OT for WPIAL Boys Soccer AAA Gold

For the second time in three years, the Peters Township Indians won WPIAL gold by outlasting Pittsburgh Central Catholic 1-0 in double overtime Saturday night at Elizabeth Forward high School.

Shady Side Academy Wins First Ever WPIAL Girls A Soccer Title

Shady Side Academy made history at Baldwin Stadium by defeating Sewickley Academy to become the first ever WPIAL Girls Class-A champions. The 5th seeded Indians scored an early 2nd half goal and used that momentum to help them control play throughout the final 40-minutes.

Ryan Gil and NA Teammates Golden in PIAA Cross-Country Championships

It was a golden Saturday for both Ryan Gil, who won the 2010 Boys Class AAA Individual cross-country race while his North Allegheny teammates finished first in the boys team standings at the Parkview Course in Hershey. Coming into Saturday's WPIAL Class AA Volleyball Championship match, everyone knew that there was going to be a new champion after the defending back-to-back Class AA Champion West Allegheny Indians had been dethroned on Thursday night at Franklin Regional High School in the semifinals by the number top-seed Indiana "Little Indians" in five thrilling sets.

Frazier Claims First WPIAL Girls Class A Volleyball Gold

If you were passing through the town of Perryopolis, Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon and you were wondering where all the residents were, I can tell you that a very large number of them were in Murrysville supporting their Frazier Commodores girls volleyball team.

Pine-Richland Wins Third WPIAL Girls Volleyball AAA Crown

Hats off to the WPIAL Girls Volleyball steering committee as they got all of the top two seeds playing for the Championships in all three classifications this season. This particular conflict featured two northern suburban schools that do not have an affinity for one another on the volleyball court.

NA Duo Settles for Silver in 2010 PIAA Girls Doubles Tennis Championships

A pair of WPIAL duo's made it to the Semifinals in the 2010 PIAA Girls Doubles Tennis Championships this weekend in Hershey, one in Class AAA and one in Class AA. The North Allegheny team of Lylie Isaacs and Mikayla Becich had to settle for silver after they advanced to the finals Saturday afternoon only to lose in two sets.

Mars Remains Perfect With WPIAL Girls AA Soccer Championship

The Planets capped off a perfect run through the WPIAL season with a 2-0 win over Beaver Saturday at Baldwin High School. Second seeded Mars ends its championship season at (22-0) and even though the Planets controlled the ball and most of the play against the Bobcats, it took a while for the games first goal to be tallied.

Hampton is the New Sheriff in the WPIAL Boys AA Soccer Town After Ousting Mars

On the one hand, Hampton (21-1-0) had defeated Mars (14-6-2) twice during the 2010 regular season, and was certainly motivated to avenge a loss in the 2009 WPIAL Championship game. On the other hand, the Planets were the two-time defending champion, but the Talbots would not be denied the gold medal this time, winning 4-1 at Baldwin High School on Saturday evening.
