The three winners of the 2011 PIHL Penguins Cup Championships, Upper St. Clair, Bishop Canevin and Mars have swept the Flyers Cup winners to win all three state title games in the 2011 Pennsylvania Cup Championships Saturday afternoon at the Ice Line Arena in West Chester.

Mount Lebanon Queens of the PIAA Girls Court Again and Again and Again While Archbishop Wood, Villa Maria & Steel-Highspire Also Win Titles
For a third straight year, the Mount Lebanon Blue Devils are sitting on top in Pennsylvania in Class AAAA. It wasn't pretty, but he Blue Devils were golden again by hanging on to a one point victory. District 10's Villa Maria Academy in Class AA also pulled off the trifecta by winning a third straight state title with a rout Friday afternoon.

Imhotep Charter Rolls to Boys Class AA State Title Win Over GCC
Imohtep Charter won their second PIAA Class AA basketball champions and there was no double overtime this time as the Panthers smoked the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions 67-34 on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center. 10 different players scored for the Panthers as they exploded in the second half to claim the gold.

Mount Lebanon Takes Chester To OT Before Falling in Boys AAAA Championship
In a game that some so-called experts said would be a rout, went to overtime as Chester prevailed, winning their 7th PIAA championship with a 72-60 victory over Mount Lebanon in the Boys Quad-A title game on Saturday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

PIAA Girls AAA, AA and A Championship Basketball Recaps

While the WPIAL has five teams, Mount Lebanon, Montour, Greensburg Central Catholic and Lincoln Park boys along with Mount Lebanon girls too a shot at state gold this weekend at Penn State University, there were three other state title games being played at the Bryce Jordan Center. Philly MCS Charter Too Mighty for Lincoln Park in PIAA Boys A Finals
The Lincoln Park Leopards ran into a mighty buzz saw in the Philadelphia Math, Civics and Sciences Mighty Elephants on Friday afternoon in the PIAA Class A boys final at the Bryce Jordan Center, falling 70-55. The Elephants won their first ever PIAA title, led by Jeremiah Worthen as the super sophomore finished with 22 points.

Scoring Drought Costs Montour as Spartans Fall in Class AAA Boys Title Game
For the first two plus quarters, Montour hung right with the defending state champions, but a seven plus minute scoring drought cost the Spartans a chance for the Class AAA title, falling to Neumann-Goretti 55-45 on Friday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

2011 MSA SPORTS ALL-MAT WRESTLING TEAM

Last weekend put a stamp on the end of yet another season of fantastic wrestling. The WPIAL produced 5 state champions and 48 total medallists (24 in both AA and AAA) over that time in Hershey. While there were many great wrestlers to watch and follow throughout the season, the MSA Sports Network had whittled the superb list down to the top ten wrestlers of 2010-2011 for our All-Mat Team.

They saved the best for last. Upper St. Clair denied Canon-McMillan a repeat of the Penguins Cup Class AAA crown with a thrilling overtime victory to close out the very first high school hockey championships at the new CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

At Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh Sunday evening, the Bishop Canevin Crusaders won their first Penguins Cup title in 18 years with a 5-2 win over the Peters Township Indians in the PIHL Class AA championship game.

Upper St. Clair Comes Back, Beats Defending Champ Canon-Mac in PIHL AAA Overtime Thriller
It took 53 minutes and 10 seconds to crown a Class AAA champion, but that just made it all the sweeter for 4th-seed Upper St. Clair as they upended 2nd-seed Canon-McMillan in dramatic fashion in overtime to win the Panthers first Penguins Cup Championship since 1987 Sunday night at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.

Third Time Still Golden For Mars in Winning Class A Penguins Cup Championship Again
The Mars Planets won their third straight Class A Penguins Cup with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Hampton Talbots Sunday at the Consol Energy Center. After being blanked on Day One on Friday, Saturday turned out to be a golden day for four WPIAL swimmers at the 2011 PIAA Class AAA Swimming and Diving championships at Bucknell University. Oakland Catholic's Leah Smith set a record in the 500-yard freestyle while Kristen Murslack of Pine-Richland won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke.
