Conestoga and N. York Win 2011 PIAA Baseball State Titles

Two WPIAL teams have broken the state baseball title drought. After two years of nothing but silver both Riverside and Serra Catholic were golden in the PIAA finals. The Panthers became the first WPIAL team to win a third PIAA baseball crown while the Eagles finally captured gold after two straight losses in the state finals.

Riverside Rallies to Defeat Salisbury Twp: Win 3rd PIAA Class AA Baseball Crown

The Riverside Panthers got another big hit from Ryan Finnegan to claim their third PIAA title with a 5-2 win over the Salisbury Township Falconsin the Class AA title game at Medlar Field. Finnegan's three run inside the park homer rallied Riverside from a 2-1 deficit in the fifth.

The 2011 PIAA Class AAA Softball Championship Game Friday evening at Penn State University's brand new Nittany Lion Softball Park's Beard Field between the WPIAL's third place team the Valley Vikings and the District 3 champion Manheim Central Barons turned on one play.

The Serra Catholic Eagles claimed their first PIAA baseball championship by defeating the Reading Central Catholic Cardinals 4-0 at Medlar Park on Friday afternoon. Junior pitcher Alain Girman allowed just three hits and six base runners including just two over the four innings.

Altoona Curve Fall in Series Opener Tuesday Against New Britain

In the first game of seven at home in six days, the New Britain Rock Cats stormed out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Altoona Curve by the score of 10-4 at Blair County Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Neshannock Shows No Mercy In Pounding Char-Houston in WPIAL Class A Finals 11-1
The second trip was better for the Neshannock Lancers, who were no-hit in last years title game against Serra Catholic. 2011 was a better experience as Tuesday night at Consol Energy Park, Neshannock won the WPIAL Class A title with an 11-1 victory over the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers in six innings.

North Continues to Dominate Quad A Baseball as Seneca Valley Routs Peters Twp
The Seneca Valley Raiders won their first ever WPIAL Quad-A baseball title in a rout, defeating number one seed Peters Township 15-4 on Tuesday night at Consol Energy Park. The Raiders got a three run homer from Christian Durbin and a solo shot by Jack Graham. Matt Smith pitched a gem after a rough start, striking out nine in the final five innings.

2011 PIAA Boys and Girls Track and Field Day Two Update
May 28, 2011
Sprinters Trenton Coles of Clairton and Iman Wilkerson of Penn Hills turned a double play at the PIAA track and field championships Saturday at Shippensburg University. Coles, a junior, and Wilkerson, a senior, were the only double winners from the WPIAL on the final day of the two-day meet at Shippensburg University. Both won the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

North Allegheny and Deer Lakes Win 2011 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Titles
For one school, it was just another gold trophy to add to their recent run, for another, it's a title that has been a long time coming. North Allegheny beat section rival Seneca Valley in four games to capture a fifth consecutive WPIAL boys volleyball title by winning the Class AAA championship Friday evening at Chartiers Valley High School.

Its 2009 All Over Again as Mt. Lebanon and Hampton Earn 2011 WPIAL Boys Lacrosse Championships
Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. Both schools captured a second WPIAL boys lacrosse crown with tight victories Friday night at Chartiers Valley High School and here on the MSA Sports Network.
