WPIAL Fall Sports Realignments for 2012 and 2013

The WPIAL Board of Control officially passed the new alignments for the WPIAL fall sports on Tuesday afternoon, including girls volleyball, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross-country, girls tennis and girls field hockey. NEW WPIAL FOOTBALL ALIGNMENT FOR 2012 and 2013

Major changes have taken place to the look of the WPIAL football conference alignment for the next two years, which was officially set with the approval of the WPIAL Board of Control Tuesday afternoon. The biggest change comes in Class AAAA and Class AAA where both classifications have shrunk from the standard four conferences to three conferences.

WPIAL Team Wrestling Playoff Picture

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012, a one-day section championship tournament doubleheader will be held prior to the WPIAL team championship tournament. At the section championship tournament, the first place finisher from each subsection will wrestle the second place team from the opposite subsection in the same section. The two winners will then wrestle for the section championship.

Things have been relatively easy for the Montour boys basketball team so far. The Spartans are 6-0 and have outscored opponents, 73-44.But things are about to get a lot tougher for Montour, as the Spartans are about to embark on a week-long schedule that is probably tougher than any other team’s in the WPIAL.

WPIAL Coaching Change – Shaler Football

Nearly a quarter of the WPIAL Class AAAA schools are looking for new football coaches. On Friday, Shaler joined the growing list of Altoona, Hempfield, Kiski Area, Mount Lebanon and Penn Hills without a gridiron boss after veteran coach Neil Gordon announced his resignation.

Legendary WPIAL Football Coach Passes Away

Former New Castle football coach Lindy Lauro passed away Thursday night at the age of 90. New Castle won three WPIAL titles in Lauro's 32 career career as the coach of the Canes. Funeral arraignments were not announced as of Friday morning.
