A year removed from winning their fifth straight WPIAL Championship, Burrell came into the 2011-2012 season replacing seven starting seniors and a new head coach. But that did not stop the Buccaneers from keeping their WPIAL Championship streak alive.

Canon-McMillan Pins North Allegheny To Win WPIAL AAA Gold

After winning two straight WPIAL Championships, Canon-McMillan looked to join North Allegheny as the only team in AAA Team Tournament history in winning three consecutive WPIAL titles. The Tigers tried everything they could to keep the Big Macs from joining them in the elite status.

When the WPIAL announces playoff brackets at a meeting every February, the league also hands out plaques to section champions. For the first time ever, Bentworth might double team the WPIAL for the championship plaques. Things have been good for Bentworth basketball this season. Twice as good, actually.

Scholastic Notebook – 01/27/2012

Mike Decker is a computer education teacher at Woodland Hills High School. As basketball coach, he is part sociology teacher also. Decker is in his second season as Woodland Hills’ coach and has orchestrated one of the more impressive turnarounds in WPIAL basketball. If you listen to Decker, one of the biggest reasons for the Wolverines’ success is a change in culture.

Two incredible golden streaks continued Saturday at Chartiers Valley High School as Canon-McMillan and Burrell continued their district mat mastery. The top-seed Big Macs dominated in their three wins to become the fourth team ever to win three straight WPIAL Team Wrestling Championships.
