2012 WPIAL Football Playoff Picture Through Week Six

This weekend begins the MSA Sports 'Stretch Run' to the 2012 WPIAL football regular season. The final three weeks in which you will here plenty of talk with these words and phrases: Conference champions; Home field advantage; Playoff positioning; Staying alive; Controlling your own destiny; wild card and of course, the dreaded Gardner points. Bottom line is these final three weeks will help set up the brackets for the eventual drive on the Highway to Heinz.We will break down the WPIAL football playoff picture each week over the next couple of weeks, with each break down being more specific in what needs to happen for all teams involved.  Conference records are in parenthesis as well as remaining conference games.

Chicks Picks – Week Seven – 2012
Welcome to Week 7 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks, in her travels this week, noticed several signs for an annual UFO Conference scheduled to take place in the area.  After further research, Chick’s Picks learned that the conference is a showcase where investigators gather to share research into the unknown.

District College Football Preview for Saturday, October 13th
Week 7 of the College Football season continues with some good match ups this weekend. Conference play rolls on in the NEC, PSAC and PAC, along with the WVIAC and the NCAC.Here are previews of All the games, including 3 that can be heard right here on the Network:Slippery Rock(2-4) at Clarion(3-3)  1pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network Both teams are 1-2 in PSAC West divisional play. Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 47-23-3 and has won the last 6 meetings. SRU lost last week to IUP 33-18. The Rock has dropped 3 straight games.  RB Akeem Satterfield is 8th in the PSAC in rushing at 83 yards per game. Satterfield has scored just 4 touchdowns this season.

District College Football Recap for Saturday, October 6th
The weather turned cold on the opening weekend of October and wind conditions affected several games thruout the area. Several teams pulled out big wins as Cal and Mercyhurst stay on top of the PSAC West.Unfortunately the focus was on Crestview, Kentucky as the W & J Presidents took the field after one of their team was killed on Thursday.Here are recaps of all the games, with three heard here on the Network:IUP 33 - Slippery Rock 16 On Homecoming Day at George P. Miller Stadium, the Crimson Hawks pounded out 388 yards rushing and led 27-9 at the half to cruise to the win and remain in the chase for a division title. IUP ground out 29 first downs and held the football for over 41 minutes in the win.

The winds of change have swept down upon Southwestern Pennsylvania for the first Saturday of high school football in October. Week Six began on Thursday and Friday with very pleasant weather that felt like early September football. Less than 24 hours later, and the feeling is more like November football. Peters & Sewickley Duo’s Win 2012 WPIAL Girls Doubles Tennis Gold Again

Sarah Komer of Peters Township and Sewickley Academy have done it again. A year after Komer won the AAA crown with Stephanie Smith, she has now captured gold with a new teammate in Abby Cummings. The two beat the top-seed duo of Nicole Cyterski and Megan Watson of Oakland Catholic Friday afternoon at North Allegheny High School in the Class AAA title match. Speaking of repeat golden performances, two different Sewickley Academy Panthers won the AA championship as top-seed Amy Cheng and Jappman Monga outlasted Chelsea Carter and Sara Kaminsky of South Park. Scholastic Notebook – 10/05/2012
One and four. When those three words are uttered about a football team after five weeks, it usually indicates bad things. But for Blackhawk and Chartiers-Houston records are indeed deceiving. Blackhawk and Chartiers-Houston are two teams that are usually much more than respectable. You could say both have fallen on hard times this season as both are 1-4. But are there many 1-4 teams as good as Blackhawk and Char-Houston? Blackhawk and Char-Houston are the hard-luck stories of the WPIAL this season. A few points here and there, take away a turnover here and there, and their seasons could be vastly different. Want proof? Three of Blackhawk’s losses are by a total of five points. Char-Houston’s four losses are by a total of 17 points.
